Today in Lille they spoke of the importance of having a Guinea for all Guineans and that the merit or the problem with a leader has nothing to do with ethnicity. In New York we are trying to do everything possible to bring together different groups of Guinean activists – traditionally separated by ethnicity – so that we can work together and say to the CNDD and other politicians that they will not succeed this time in using ethnicity as a machete to divide the people and in that way hold on to power – never again. Instead, we are trying to do everything to hang on to the unity that exists now against the CNDD and from this create a sustained unity in order to find a way out of the immediate impasse but also to move to elections where the most important thing will be the competence, values and programs of the candidates and not the blood of their ethnicity. It’s only in unifying ourselves for justice and finally for a democratic transition that we will be able to defeat the CNDD and move Guinea ahead. Friends, how can we create and maintain this unity?
It’s primordial that all ethnic groups from Guinea living in New York and abroad work together as one entity. For this purpose an Organization Fix Africa Now (OFAN) has been created. OFAN welcomes everyone, regardless of ethnic beliefs or political backgrounds. It strives to provide educational and support services not only to Guinean, but to all Africans in a peaceful atmosphere.

Il est primordial que tous les groupes ethniques de Guinée qui vivent à New York et à l’étranger travaillent ensemble comme une seule entité. À cet effet, une Organisation Fix Africa Now (OFAN) a été créé. OFAN accueille tout le monde, indépendamment des croyances et origines ethniques ou politiques. Il s’efforce de fournir des services éducatifs et de soutien non seulement aux guinéenne, mais à tous les Africains dans une atmosphère pacifique.

Chers frères et sœurs,
La situation sociopolitique actuelle de la Guinée mérite une attention particulière. En effet, depuis l’avènement de la démocratie en 1990, les pouvoirs politiques n’ont fourni aucun effort dans le sens de l’impression d’une culture de démocratie chez les fils et filles du pays. Au contraire, ils nous ont toujours endormis et divisés afin de se maintenir au pouvoir.
Ce qui est vraiment regrettable, c’est qu’au moment ou nous pleurons nos 157 morts et nous efforçons a traduire devant les tribunaux les auteurs de cette barbarie, il plane au dessus de nos têtes un autre risque. Il s’agit cette fois des conséquences potentielles d’un affrontement ethnique. Nous devons faire beaucoup attention !
Depuis notre indépendance en 1958, y a-t-il eu un seul président démocratiquement élu ? Lorsque notre pays accédait à l’indépendance a-t-il été question d’alternance au pouvoir entre les différentes ethnies de la Guinée ? Pourquoi le Liberia, la Sierra Leone, la Côte D’ivoire et tant d’autres pays ne nous serviraient-ils pas d’exemples ?
Chers frères et sœurs, pendant que nous nous battons pour mettre fin à la dictature, battons-nous également pour éliminer de nos cœurs la rancœur tribale et ethnique qui est pire que tous les canons et bérets rouges de Dadis.
Ensemble, nous réussirons.

Dear brothers and sisters,
The current socio-political situation in Guinea deserves special attention. Since the advent of democracy in 1990, government policies have provided no effort in the direction of the impression of a culture of democracy among son and daughters of the country. Instead, they maintained us asleep and divided in order to maintain power.
What is truly regrettable is that as we mourn our 157 dead and are working in bringing to justice those perpetrators of this barbarism, another risk hovers above our heads. This times the potential consequences of an ethnic clash. We must pay much attention!
Since our independence in 1958, there was only one democratically elected president? When our country was gaining its independence there was question of alternation in power between different ethnic groups in Guinea? Why Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and many other countries don’t serve as examples?
Dear brothers and sisters, while we are fighting to end the dictatorship, we also are fighting to eliminate from our hearts the tribal and ethnic resentment that is worse than all the guns and Dadis red berets.
Together we will succeed.

Je ‘apprécie très sincèrement ton idée. Nous devons lutter l’ethnocentrie et le tribalisme qui sévit dans notre pays. Je crois être sur que pour le moment, le problème guinéen est un problème commun a tout le monde et toutes les ethnies. Les massacres massifs commis le 28 septembre dernier n’ont pas seulement touchés les Peulhs ou les Soussou ou les Malinkés. Pour le moment, tous les guinéens doivent se battre pour traduire en justice les commanditaires et les auteurs de ces tueries, viols, vols et ce trafic d’influence.
Nous devons lutter jusqu’à ce que nous obtenions la justice et la vérité.

I do appreciate very much your idea. We must fight ethnocentrism and tribalism that plagues our country. I think being on that for now, the problem of Guinea is a problem common to everyone and all races. The mass killings committed last September 28 have not only affected the Fulani or the Susu and Malinke. For now, all Guineans are struggling to bring to justice the perpetrators of these killings, rapes, thefts and trafficking.
We must fight until we get justice and truth.
